Great Big Green Week 2025
From June 7–15, the UK will once again celebrate community action on climate and nature during the Great Big Green Week.
Now in its fifth year, the Great Big Green Week is an inspirational campaign led by The Climate Coalition, backed by over 100 partner organisations. It aims to bring together 1 million people nationwide to demonstrate how everyday swap outs can create meaningful, lasting change.
What’s the theme this year?
The 2025 theme is powerful but simple: “Let’s swap together for good.” From swapping single use items for reusable alternatives such as swapping plastic water bottles for stainless steel reusable ones to community-based skill-sharing, the idea is to inspire collective action. These swap outs aren’t only symbolic – they’re practical steps towards a greener society.
Why it matters
Since its launch in 2021, the Great Big Green Week has grown year after year – from 5,000 events in its first year, to over 600,000 participants in 2024. In 2025, it aims to reach 1 million people, across schools, neighbourhoods, workplaces, and other community groups to collectively strive for climate action.
The aim is to send a signal to leaders and decision makers that communities across the UK want better climate policies and greener futures. It’s about protecting and restoring nature, mitigating climate impacts, strengthening communities, and making sustainable habits a part of our everyday lives.

Ideas for getting involved
Whether you're an individual, local group, school, community organisation, or business, there are endless opportunities to get involved:
- Host a swap shop or clothes exchange, trading preloved items for reuse
- Set up a repair café, where community members can fix items together
- Organise a litter pick or tree planting event to physically restore and care for your green spaces
- Promote a skill-swap meetup – from gardening advice to cycling lessons, culinary ideas to repair tips
- In schools: run eco-themed assemblies, poster contests, book swaps, and workshops – helping even younger children contribute
How to join the Great Big Green Week organisation
- Find an event near you via the official website
- Organise your own – you can list it publicly to attract local volunteers
- Access free toolkits, advice, and training through the Organisers Hub to plan everything from community fairs to policy advocacy
Why it works
This is a movement proving that change starts at the local level, where ideas can scale up to have a wider impact. By celebrating small swaps – new habits, shared knowledge, greener initiatives – we collectively reinforce the message that we can live better, together.
In short, the Great Big Green Week is the UK’s largest ever community led climate and nature festival, inviting everyone from families to community groups, schools to nearly a million individuals to enable meaningful change through simple swaps. This June, the UK is uniting to protect the planet and work towards a greener future. Let’s swap together.
