The Re-Use Partnership (TRUP)

The team from Cory has done so much more than providing funding.  They have been proactive in supporting our organisation and suggesting and implementing initiatives towards upholding the aims of TRUP. They fully support the philosophy of re-use and recycling. We look forward to working together on future projects.

Overview

The Re-Use Partnership (TRUP) was established in 2007. The main aims of the organisation are:

  • The promotion of re-use and facilitate the re-use of unwanted articles that would otherwise have gone to landfill;
  • The relief of financial hardship by the provision of reasonably priced donated, surplus household items;
  • The provision of skills-based training and volunteering opportunities for all, targeting vulnerable people who may be at risk of social exclusion;
  • To work in partnership with other organisations with similar aims or objects, to achieve the above and to raise awareness and educate the public in the benefits of redirecting unwanted waste items for re-use.

Cory Partnership

A bid was made to Cory Community Fund to improve our workshop area, which is used to refurbish and up-cycle items in preparation for sale in our showroom and also carry out minor repairs to donated items. The workshop was in an unheated section of the warehouse, and we wanted to enclose the area and install heaters to provide a more comfortable working environment for our staff and volunteers. The funds were used to purchase the wood needed to enclose the space and the heaters. The majority of the construction work was carried out by volunteers, who also painted the whole area on completion.

End Result

The workshop area is now a comfortable space for our staff and volunteers to carry out these tasks and is used on a more regular basis. Plans for the future are to install ceiling fans in the showroom are to improve the efficiency of the heating system and reduce costs. There are also plans to paint the exterior of the building to create a more welcoming aspect and also to create extra parking spaces to ease access, especially for anyone with mobility issues.
